Hino 338, 308 +2 more: Engine
Affects Hino 338, 308, 268, 238 · 2005–2006 — about 854 vehicles.
The hazard
On certain vehicles, corrosion and/or rust may develop on the automatic belt tensioner spindle and/or bushing causing the auto tensioner to become stiff or bind. This can cause the drive belt to suddenly come off, and/or the auto tensioner mounting bolts to suddenly break. If the drive belt comes off, the Alternator Warning Lamp will illuminate. If the warning is ignored, an engine overheat condition and/or loss of vehicle power (engine stall) may occur which potentially could result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the tensioner date code and replace tensioner, bolts and belt if required. Note: This recall is superseded by recall 2007168.
