Freightliner Cascadia: Brakes

Affects Freightliner Cascadia · 2017 — about 20 vehicles.

The hazard

On certain vehicles built with NFD tandem rear axles, due to a manufacturing issue, the output shaft hardening may be too deep at the bolt hole for the yoke, causing the area to be brittle. The brittle condition may lead to fracture of the output shaft, which if the fracture were to happen suddenly at highway speed while descending a grade, the compression brake would be rendered ineffective and the shaft may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the through shaft.
