Jayco Designer Fifth Wheel Trailer, Recon Fifth Wheel Trailer +2 more: Electrical

Affects Jayco Designer Fifth Wheel Trailer, Recon Fifth Wheel Trailer, Jay Feather Exp Travel Trailer, Eagle Fifth Wheel Trailer · 2009 — about 31 vehicles.

The hazard

On certain fifth wheel trailers, the isolating rubber boot, located atop electrical connectors within the towing harness, may not have been installed correctly during vehicle assembly. As such, depending which connector becomes exposed and shorts to ground, 1). An electrical short could occur, which could result in a vehicle fire, 2). Loss of driving lights may result in the driver's intentions to turn or brake not being conveyed clearly to other road users, as well as making the vehicle less conspicuous during hours of reduced visibility, 3). Loss of trailer braking function, which could extend stopping distances. All these conditions could result in property damage, personal injury, or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect the rubber caps, and correct as needed.
