The hazard
On certain vehicles, the TRW Model 410M ECU (Electronic Control Unit) can misinterpret particular false wheel speed signals generated from any of the following conditions: An incorrect gap between the sensor and tone ring, a chaffed sensor wire, connector corrosion, sensor vibration or quality of harness and pin-outs. If one of these conditions occurs, the ECU could not distinguish between an actual low friction event on road surface and a low amplitude sensor signal and would activate the ABS brakes, instead of deactivating the ABS in response to a false signal. The driver would experience a hard brake pedal during the middle to end of a braking event and a decrease in deceleration at the end of the stop. The driver may experience an unexpected extended stopping distance, which could result in a collision. The ABS warning indicator light may not come on to warn the driver of a system malfunction. Correction: Dealer will affect repairs. Note: recall superseded by 2004171 and 2004172.
