Mercedes-Benz ML Class: Seats and Restraints
Affects Mercedes-Benz ML Class · 1998–1999 — about 7K vehicles.
The hazard
On certain vehicles, the plastic cover encasing the seat belt latching mechanism may be loose due to an incomplete staking process during manufacture. If a loose plastic cover is present during the operation of engaging the buckle tongue to the latch mechanism the buckle may unlatch thereby increasing the risk of occupant injury in the event of a crash or sudden stop. Correction: The seat belt buckle will be inspected to ensure full and proper staking. If the tabs are not properly staked, the entire seat belt buckle assembly will be replaced.
