The hazard

The knurled pivot shaft (which operates the windshield wiper arm) is welded to a lever, which connects the linkage from the wiper motor. On certain vehicles, the weld at the pivot shaft to lever may fail. This failure can occur on either the right or left side causing the wiper arm to be inoperative for that side. This could result in obscured driver vision if the failure occurred during inclement weather. Correction: A stall test will be performed on the wiper system to validate the integrity of the suspect weld. All wiper assemblies which fail the stall test will be replaced.
