Buick Skylark: Fuel System

Affects Buick Skylark · 1997 — about 7 vehicles.

The hazard

THESE VEHICLES MAY NOT COMPLY WITH C.M.V.S.S. 301 - FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY. SOME WELDS IN THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL MAY HAVE BEEN MISSED DURING ASSEMBLY. IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE VEHICLE SHEET METAL STRUCTURE MAY NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED. THIS COULD RESULT IN UNEXPECTED DAMAGE TO THE FUEL TANK OR FUEL LINES AND LEAKAGE OF FUEL. IF THERE IS A FUEL LEAK AND AN IGNITION SOURCE, A FIRE COULD OCCUR. CORRECTION: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR MISSING WELDS AND, IF NECESSARY, PLACE THREE WELDS BETWEEN THE INVOLVED PANELS.
