GMC General: Steering
Affects GMC General · 1985–1986 — about 2K vehicles.
The hazard
On certain vehicles, improper torque of the clamp pinch bolt securing the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft may allow the clamp to loosen and the shafts to separate. This would result in loss of vehicle control and possible crash without prior warning. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace as necessary the clamp assembly and the upper steering shaft.
